Retail investors kept shouting "to the moon" and pouring in, driving up stock prices dramatically in the short term and defeating Wall Street short sellers. Several short-selling firms subsequently announced that they would no longer short the stock.

Fellow investor’s insightful views:
First, thanks to the mobile-internet era, the expansion of the retail-investor base has boosted their relative weight; second, pandemic-induced stay-at-home orders and government subsidies have provided retail investors with ample time and financial resources; and finally, highly speculative young retail investors—who are hostile to the status quo—have rallied on forums like WallStreetBets and social-media platforms. With plenty of time, energy, and capital at their disposal, they've banded together to stir up one storm after another.

Event 2: Internet Giants Face Antitrust Scandal
Cow Pen Influence Index:

Event Time:April 2021 to present
Event Introduction:Antitrust regulation in the internet sector is intensifying, and initial results are being seen in curbing the disorderly expansion of capital. On November 18, the State Administration for Market Regulation's Anti-Monopoly Bureau was officially established. Since the Anti-Monopoly Law came into effect in 2008, no major internet companies have been penalized by regulatory authorities for monopolistic practices. However, since the end of last year, antitrust cases involving internet platforms have begun to attract public attention. High-profile cases such as Alibaba being fined RMB 18.2 billion, the suspension of the merger between HUYA Inc and DouYu International Limited, and Meituan being fined RMB 3.4 billion have continued to cause market volatility.

Fellow investor’s insightful views:
"The intensification of antitrust enforcement is often accompanied by widening income inequality and labor market imbalances," said Xu Chi, an analyst at Zhongtai Securities, in a report earlier this year.
He reviewed the century-long evolution of antitrust enforcement and argued that, as industries or economic cycles reach their end stages and the pool of incremental growth nearly dries up, small and medium-sized enterprises typically face significant challenges, while labor markets become increasingly imbalanced. Coupled with the exacerbation of wealth inequality, this dynamic further incentivizes regulatory authorities to place greater emphasis on robust government oversight and stringent regulation of digital economy giants—sectors that are relatively insulated from macroeconomic headwinds—in order to strike a balance between fairness and efficiency.
Whether the policy intent and its practical consequences are "misaligned" remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the antitrust cycle is drawing ever closer.

Fellow investor’s insightful views:
Population aging is a major trend in global demographic development and will also remain a fundamental feature of China's national conditions for a considerable period to come.
According to the seventh national census conducted by the National Bureau of Statistics, approximately 40% of births in recent years have been second children, a proportion that is by no means low. This indicates that the primary drag on China's birth rate stems from the excessively rapid decline in first-born births; even with second-borns accounting for a substantial share of all births, the overall declining trend in the birth rate has yet to be reversed. From this perspective, relying solely on the three-child policy to fundamentally reverse the current low total birth rate in China may prove challenging.
From an investment perspective, stocks associated with the three-child policy may not ultimately see substantial earnings support stemming from a significant rise in the birth rate.
Event 4: Tightening Regulation in the Education Sector
Cow Pen Influence Index:

Event Time:Since May 2021
Event Introduction:Since the Two Sessions this year, the education sector has been hit by one wave of turbulence after another. On May 21, the "Double Reduction" policy was approved at a meeting of the Central Commission for Comprehensive Deepening Reform; by late May, major education and training firms began reporting widespread layoffs; on July 23, securities firms sharply lowered their price targets for education stocks, triggering a broad sell-off in the Hong Kong and U.S. education sectors, with New Oriental plunging more than 50% and TAL Education Group dropping over 70%. In early October, vocational education once again received strong policy support, spurring a sustained rebound in the education sector.

Fellow investor’s insightful views:
The original mission of education is to both teach and nurture; above all, it is about nurturing. Yet under the profit-driven logic of capital, educational training institutions have reduced education to a series of standardized commodities, thereby losing sight of its fundamental purpose of fostering well-rounded individuals. With the introduction of the "Double Reduction" policy, the education sector is poised for a new wave of transformation.
Although the market had already anticipated the introduction of this policy, its severity still exceeded prior expectations.
Among these measures, the three most impactful on the capital markets are as follows: 1. All academic-subject training institutions are prohibited from seeking public listings or raising capital through IPOs; capitalization of such operations is strictly forbidden. 2. Listed companies are prohibited from raising funds in the stock market to invest in academic-subject training institutions, and from acquiring assets of such institutions through share issuance, cash payments, or other means. 3. Foreign investors are prohibited from obtaining controlling or minority stakes in academic-subject training institutions through mergers and acquisitions, entrusted management, franchising, or the use of variable-interest entities. Any existing violations must be rectified and brought into compliance.
The above three measures have completely closed off the avenues for subject-based educational institutions to raise capital through IPOs, making it impossible for such institutions to obtain funding from domestic and overseas investors. At the same time, those already listed must undertake rectification; if they do so, the business models of these listed companies will inevitably undergo significant changes.

Event 5: Liquidity Crisis in Real Estate Stocks
Cow Pen Influence Index:

Event Time:July 2021 to present
Event Introduction:On July 19, following the freezing of RMB 132 million in Evergrande's assets by GF Bank, the situation continued to escalate, with shares and bonds of the Evergrande group plunging across the board that day. Subsequently, major banks repeatedly downgraded Evergrande's credit rating, prompting the company to embark on a "cutting off an arm to save the body" strategy of asset sales, during which its stock price plummeted from around RMB 10 in early July to just over RMB 2. As a former top-tier property developer, Evergrande has long been subject to underlying market concerns due to its massive balance sheet. At the same time, several other property firms—including Kaisa Group, China Aoyuan, and Fantasia Holdings—have also faced debt defaults or overdue wealth-management products, further intensifying market worries about a liquidity crisis among property developers. However, as these companies have actively sought self-rescue and major institutions such as Goldman Sachs have begun snapping up Chinese property developers' USD-denominated bonds at bargain prices, market pessimism has eased somewhat.

Insightful views from fellow investors:
Since the introduction of the "three red lines" policy in the second half of 2020, we have witnessed more comprehensive and refined policy adjustments by the central government targeting both the real estate market and property developers. In the medium to long term, we believe that this suite of regulatory measures will help streamline industry order and reduce credit risks among real estate firms; however, in the short term, these policies are bound to impose significant challenges on the sector, with highly leveraged companies facing heightened refinancing pressures. As a result of these policy measures, the fundamentals of real estate firms have begun to diverge at an accelerated pace, while risk appetite in the capital markets has contracted markedly, leading to underwhelming performance across the board for Chinese high-yield property bonds since the start of the year—and, in some cases, even individual credit defaults.

Insightful views from fellow investors:
Overall, the Beijing Stock Exchange serves innovative small and medium-sized enterprises and is more inclusive compared to ChiNext and STAR Markets. This group of listed companies is not yet distinguished in quality and has notable shortcomings; however, most are in the early stages of their life cycles and remain highly adaptable, offering investors an opportunity to invest in cutting-edge hard-tech firms at an early stage.
Additionally, the Beijing Stock Exchange's pipeline of prospective listings, spanning both the Basic and Innovation tiers, includes numerous 'specialized, refined, distinctive, and innovative' small giants with market capitalizations of RMB 500 million or RMB 1 billion. Many of these companies operate in emerging sectors such as life sciences, semiconductors, and new energy, making this pool a substantial gold mine waiting to be tapped. However, given the mixed quality and sheer volume of candidates, identifying and uncovering these hidden gems will not be an easy task.
The Beijing Stock Exchange officially opened today—a moment of historic significance that we are privileged to witness. Moving forward, seizing the investment opportunities presented by the BSE and identifying the next 'Ning Wang' will be up to each of you to shine.

Fellow investor’s insightful views:
In fact, I don't believe the metaverse represents a purely conceptual business; rather, it embodies a distinct product-thinking approach that allows for a more coherent structuring of previously secondary concepts.
This is somewhat akin to internet thinking.
It is, in essence, an abstract concept that manifests differently across various product forms and continues to evolve and refine its meaning over time.
As for my personal investments in the metaverse concept, I'll hold off on investing in large, publicly listed companies unless they have a clear and substantive business foundation.
If there are secondary-market companies that already have AR/VR hardware and operating-system concepts, you can adopt a primary-market approach and cast a wide net.

In just ten trading days, it quickly breached the USD 900, 1,000, 1,100, and 1,200 levels. Even after surpassing a market capitalization of USD 1 trillion, the rally persisted, with the stock recently peaking at USD 1,243.49 and a market cap exceeding USD 1.2 trillion. Meanwhile, this surge also propelled Rivian, Tesla's "competitor," to soar by 120% in its first five trading days post-IPO, while other individual new-energy vehicle stocks such as Lucid also posted impressive gains. Subsequently, due to factors including Musk's share sales, the performance of Tesla and the broader new-energy vehicle sector has cooled somewhat.

Insights from fellow investors:
I believe the reason funds continue to chase it so aggressively can be attributed to three main factors:
First, it is the high-tech company most likely to replicate Apple's success, and Apple's illustrious past serves as a strong conviction for many.
Second, amid the global influx of liquidity, Tesla is the company that can most easily secure a liquidity premium.
Third, it operates within a high-growth, niche industry with an appealing 'narrative' for the future—such as autonomous driving, data resources, and carbon credits. The allure of these themes lies in their ability to inspire optimistic expectations while remaining largely unfulfilled, making them difficult to disprove. Under the influence of herd behavior, it becomes all too easy to fall into the trap of blind faith.

Fellow investor’s insightful views:
At the time, the reasoning behind the thinking consisted of three points:
1. As a former U.S. president, Trump enjoys immense popularity and is also an extremely wealthy tycoon;
2. Trump has 89 million followers on Twitter. After being banned from the platform for a long period, he decided to launch his own social media platform to counter the "silencing" by social media giants. This act of standing up to tech "giants" is inherently moral and just, gaining support and resonance from his fans and the general public;
3. PHUN presents a more compelling investment thesis: with a share capital of less than 100 million, its stock had already surged by 170% at the time, yet at a price of USD 4 per share, its market capitalization was only USD 400 million.

10. COVID-19 Mutates Again, Omicron Sparks Market Panic
Cow Pen Influence Index:

Event Time:Late November 2021
Background: In mid-to-late November, a new variant was detected in South Africa, reportedly more transmissible than Delta, prompting several countries to impose travel bans. On Friday, November 26, the emergence of the Omicron variant triggered widespread market panic, sending stock markets in Europe and the United States sharply lower; the Dow Jones Industrial Average at one point plunged by more than 1,000 points, as risk-averse sentiment surged. Across the board, travel-related stocks—such as airlines and cruise lines—suffered heavy losses, while pandemic-themed stocks bucked the trend and surged, with Moderna's shares jumping 20%. However, as experts provided further analysis of Omicron, market panic gradually eased and subsided.

Insightful views from fellow investors:
To the average investor, it may seem that global capital markets are fixated on the mutant virus. Yet, market participants know full well that their sole focus has always been the Federal Reserve.
1. The market consensus revolves around liquidity, not recovery. Traditionally, the stock market has been viewed as a barometer of macroeconomic performance; however, the onset of the pandemic has upended this logic.
2. Omicron may be lethal, but it can no longer serve as an excuse;
3. Assets are constrained, but bulk commodities remain resilient.
Compared with the market's uncertainty, does the existence of Omicron still matter? It seems to still matter, yet it also seems less so.
