From the embarrassing situation of “not seeing everyday use” to now being written into the Central Committee Document No. 1 for the first time, the domestic prepared food industry has experienced more than 20 years of development before going from behind the scenes to the front of the stage, receiving great attention from all circles. Today, when it comes to the prepared food industry, not only is the market size of 1072 billion yuan expected to be chewed up over and over again by 2026, but its promising position in the context of rural revitalization is also well recognized. This situation is mainly due to the fact that the B-side has always occupied the largest share of the overall market share, even reaching more than 80%.
“B-side prepared dishes are essentially reshaping the supply chain organization model. They have found a balance between pure industrial mass production and personalized cooking, and have created continuous value for improving industry efficiency.” Li Xiaodong believes that because of this, “it is expected that the B-side will continue to be the mainstream of the development of the prepared food industry for a long time to come.”
As a listed company with precooked dishes as its core, how to combine “eating” with rural revitalization, in Li Xiaodong's words, “Chinese food safety did a particularly simple thing: incubate, acquire, and control a large number of restaurant chains at the front end, then link factories through the sales capacity of catering companies, so that the factory can produce the products that the market really needs, increase sales, and at the same time help farmers achieve a balance between production and marketing based on sales.”
It's easy to say, but it's even harder to actually do. In particular, at present, the penetration rate of prepared dishes in the Chinese catering industry has exceeded 60%, and the entire mainstream market for pre-prepared food sales is concentrated in the catering industry. Only by relying on professional service companies to empower the entire industry chain can we truly “use sales to determine production” to help rural revitalization; develop brands to promote local agricultural products to the whole country; and cultivate more secondary, tertiary, and industrial belts to form a solid foundation.”
