Xiaomi Auto unveiled its second model, 'Xiaomi Pengcheng,' offering a new answer to SUV interior space. Lei Jun stated it will open a new door in a new赛道.
On July 30, Xiaomi Group held its second automotive technology launch event in Beijing since entering the carmaking business, unveiling the Xiaomi Kunlun Technology Architecture—a new technical platform for Xiaomi EVs. This marks Xiaomi’s second architecture following the Modena pure-electric platform, comprising three core technologies: the Kunlun Platform, Kunlun Super Range Extender, and Kunlun All-Domain Safety.
Lei Jun, founder, chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi Group, stated that the Kunlun Technology Architecture took three and a half years to develop, with the goal of creating a vehicle that combines SUV aesthetics, drivability, and off-road capability while offering the expansive interior space and layout flexibility of an RV.
Two new models from Xiaomi’s new 'SKYNOMAD' series were also unveiled at the event: the seven-seat flagship extended-range SUV, Xiaomi SkyNomad N90 Max, and the five-seat all-wheel-drive extended-range SUV, Xiaomi SkyNomad N70 Max. Positioned as a 'smart, transformable large-space SUV series,' SkyNomad is built on the Kunlun Technology Architecture, emphasizing versatile interior configurations and advanced intelligence, complementing the driving-focused SU7/YU7 series to form a comprehensive dual-product lineup.
It is reported that two new models in the Xiaomi Pengcheng series have now opened for pre-orders: the Pengcheng N70 Max with a pre-sale price of RMB 259,900 and the Pengcheng N90 Max at RMB 299,000. Small deposits are now being accepted, with an official launch expected in September. Customers who lock in their orders after launch will enjoy priority allocation rights. As Xiaomi Auto officially enters the large-space extended-range SUV market, Lei Jun said, 'Our hearts remain as passionate as they were back then. We will open a new door on this new赛道.'
After pure electric vehicles, Xiaomi enters the extended-range arena—unveiling three core technologies under the Xiaomi Kunlun architecture
During the launch event, Lei Jun mentioned that after extensive interviews with owners of premium large SUVs, Xiaomi found that many pain points in the market for spacious SUVs remain unaddressed—for example, insufficient seating capacity, inadequate trunk storage volume, poor interior layout, and uncomfortable second- and third-row seats.
To address these pain points, Xiaomi designed from scratch the 'Xiaomi Kunlun Technology Architecture,' offering a new solution for spacious extended-range SUVs.
Targeting issues such as inflexible space utilization, suboptimal interior layout, and uncomfortable seating arrangements in large extended-range SUVs, the Xiaomi Kunlun Technology Architecture introduces an entirely new Xiaomi Kunlun platform featuring a completely flat floor running front to rear, a box-shaped cabin layout, and a highly versatile smart interior space.
Without compromising body structural integrity, the Xiaomi Kunlun platform repositions and extensively optimizes key components—including the rear electric drive unit, battery pack, and fuel tank—to achieve a fully flat floor extending from the cockpit all the way to the trunk, significantly enhancing spatial flexibility. Additional innovations include separating the spring and damper at the rear wheel arches, adjustable damper angles, and an integrated H-arm multi-link suspension, all contributing to a more spacious and neatly organized interior.
Thanks to the flat floor, boxy cabin design, and six long sliding rails—each up to 1,938 mm in length—the Xiaomi Kunlun platform ushers large extended-range SUVs into a true 'era of versatility,' enabling extreme rearward sliding of rear seats to maximize passenger space or extreme forward sliding to expand cargo volume, while also delivering extensive configurability.
To completely eliminate range anxiety for large SUVs, the Xiaomi Kunlun Technology Architecture centers on a 'large-battery extended-range' strategy and introduces the all-new Xiaomi Kunlun Super Extended-Range System. It features two proprietary extended-range-specific battery packs, delivering up to 505 km of CLTC-rated all-electric range—the highest among current extended-range vehicles. A newly customized 1.5T range extender incorporates focused development on seven core components and redesigned optimization of 57 parts, resulting in superior fuel efficiency.
Powered by the Xiaomi Kunlun Super Extended-Range System, the Pengcheng N90 Max achieves a fuel consumption of just 6.26 liters per 100 kilometers under low-battery conditions and an impressive CLTC combined range of 1,705 kilometers, making it one of the longest-range extended-range SUVs currently available. It supports 92, 95, and 98 octane gasoline, further reducing operating costs. 'We aim to deliver the best-in-class extended-range SUV experience—enabling weekly all-electric commuting for daily use, with gasoline as a reliable backup in extreme scenarios, completely eliminating charging anxiety,' said Lei Jun.
At Xiaomi Auto, safety is foundational, safety is a prerequisite, and safety supersedes everything else. Building the safest vehicle in its class is Xiaomi Auto's relentless pursuit.
In terms of body safety, the Xiaomi Kunlun All-Domain Safety System employs an armored cage-like body structure, with high-strength steel and aluminum accounting for 90.4% of the materials. Sixteen critical areas are reinforced with Xiaomi’s proprietary 2,200 MPa ultra-high-strength steel. An integrated anti-roll cage extends from the A-pillar to the C-pillar, constructed using hot-formed 2,200 MPa ultra-high-strength steel tubing. A single-piece hot-formed door ring envelops the A-, B-, C-, and D-pillars, with four key locations further reinforced by 2,200 MPa ultra-high-strength steel. The front floor frame of the passenger compartment is also made as a single hot-formed piece, with critical zones strengthened using 2,200 MPa ultra-high-strength steel to enhance floor rigidity.
Backed by a series of vehicle body safety architectures, Xiaomi Pengcheng’s omnidirectional collision standard exceeds the industry’s stringent requirements. Taking a common rear-end collision scenario as an example, the Kunlun technical architecture is designed to withstand impacts at 92 km/h, delivering 238.6% more collision energy absorption than China’s national standard and 32.3% more than the U.S. standard.
On battery safety, Xiaomi Auto has officially launched the 'Xiaomi Longjia Battery System'—a systematic power battery solution led by Xiaomi Auto, defined by Xiaomi, primarily designed and developed by Xiaomi, and subject to end-to-end quality control by Xiaomi.
The safety standards of the Xiaomi Longjia Battery far exceed China’s national standards: cell cycle life is required to reach 2,000 cycles; underbody anti-scrape design must withstand 500 joules of impact energy; and in the event of thermal runaway of a single fully charged cell at 55°C, there must be no thermal propagation, fire, or explosion. Additionally, Xiaomi has established a new quality control system featuring a 'Shadow Factory'—a deep, penetration-style supply chain management system, full-process penetrative quality inspections including 100% X-ray, CT scanning, and AI-powered inspection, and unique digital IDs for every cell enabling full traceability.
Three core technologies—the Xiaomi Kunlun Platform, Xiaomi Kunlun Super Extended-Range System, and Xiaomi Kunlun Omnidirectional Safety System—form a solid foundational architecture for Xiaomi Pengcheng, while also introducing a uniquely differentiated approach to interior space utilization compared to the rest of the industry. All core components of this architecture are sourced from top-tier domestic and international suppliers, enabling comprehensive product enhancement for Xiaomi Pengcheng.

Based on the Xiaomi Kunlun technical architecture, Xiaomi Auto’s second product series—the industry’s first smart, transformable large-space SUV, 'SKYNOMAD Xiaomi Pengcheng'—has made its official debut, offering users a new SUV spatial experience while fully ensuring safety, range, and ride comfort.
The models unveiled today are the top-trim variants of the Xiaomi Pengcheng N90 and N70 series: the seven-seat flagship extended-range SUV Xiaomi Pengcheng N90 Max and the five-seat all-wheel-drive extended-range SUV Xiaomi Pengcheng N70 Max. The N90 Max exceeds 5.2 meters in length and 1.8 meters in height, comparable in size to premium Class 9 SUVs on the market, while the N70 Max measures 4.96 meters in length, presenting a more youthful and dynamic stance.
In terms of exterior design, Xiaomi Pengcheng features a fresh take on body proportions and lines, resulting in a light and agile appearance without bulkiness. Its new dragonfly-inspired headlights and贯穿-style 3D star-ring taillights offer exceptional visual distinction. Three new color options—Distant Mountain Green, Butterfly Valley Blue, and Volcanic Ash—are understated yet confident, with layered depth and enduring appeal.
When it comes to interior space, Xiaomi Pengcheng delivers exceptional roominess. Taking the N90 Max as an example, its 2+2+3 seven-seat layout easily accommodates an entire family, and even when fully loaded, the trunk can still fit seven 20-inch suitcases.
Moreover, the interior space is intelligently reconfigurable, supporting 18 scenarios including face-to-face seating mode, office mode, nap mode, and bed mode. All transformable configurations—including the center island and doors—feature electric adjustment and voice control via XiaoAI. Enhanced safety measures include high-strength sliding rails, 39 pinch-protection points, and countdown reminders.
In terms of interior features, the Xiaomi Pengcheng comes standard with a 'fridge, big-screen TV, and plush seating': a 9L high-capacity independent compressor fridge, a 21.4-inch rear-seat TV supporting 3K HD resolution, 95% soft-touch surfaces throughout the cabin, and over 12 layers of soft layered design. It also includes dual-zone physical sunshades, a full-width instrument panel, and a 256-color digital ambient lighting system. The N90 Max further adds Xiaomi’s new StarString audio system, an ultra-quiet cabin, and zero-gravity second-row seats.
Both the N90 Max and N70 Max feature dual-motor all-wheel drive, delivering a peak output of 310 kW, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in as fast as 5.5 seconds, and reaching a top speed of 190 km/h. The N90 Max offers a combined range of 1,705 km, while the N70 Max delivers a pure electric range of 505 km—both demonstrating outstanding range performance.
The vehicle is built on a premium chassis with double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link independent rear suspension, standard with five-level adjustable air springs and continuously variable damping shock absorbers for more agile steering and stable braking. In safety tests, the N90 Max maintained straight-line stability even after simultaneous blowouts of both left-side tires at 160 km/h with seven occupants onboard.
On the intelligence front, the Xiaomi Pengcheng is equipped with the same cutting-edge intelligent architecture found in the SU7 and YU7, including Xiaomi’s integrated four-in-one domain control module, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform, and NVIDIA’s Thor automotive computing platform.
All models come fully equipped with advanced driver-assistance systems as standard, featuring Xiaomi HAD, a 700 TOPS Thor computing chip, dual LiDAR units, 4D millimeter-wave radar, and ALD-coated high-definition cameras. The N90 Max also debuts a rear-facing solid-state LiDAR, further eliminating blind spots in the rear quarters of this large SUV.
Additionally, the Xiaomi Pengcheng introduces a newly developed Flyback technology that uses a high-voltage-to-low-voltage power supply mode, enabling the Sentry Mode to consume less than 5 km of range over 10 hours overnight. Keeping ten cans of cola chilled at 5°C for 24 hours consumes only 0.72 kWh of total vehicle energy.
For safety, the Xiaomi Pengcheng features an armored cage-like body structure, integrated roll bars, one-piece hot-stamped door rings, and triple-redundant door handles as part of its comprehensive safety system. It supports emergency wading up to 750 mm and has emergency floating and escape capabilities.
The N90 Max alone is equipped with up to 12 airbags for comprehensive occupant protection. To further ensure vehicle quality and safety, Xiaomi Pengcheng insists on real-world road testing—by June 30 this year, it had deployed 566 test vehicles, accumulating over 4.28 million kilometers of real-world testing.
Lei Jun stated that the Xiaomi Pengcheng carries no fixed label; instead, it aims to meet diverse user needs through unique spatial design: 'When taking kids out, it becomes a family-friendly dad-mobile; raise the tray table, and it transforms into a mobile lounge; clear everything out, and it’s your personal sanctuary.'
After five years of systematic development, Xiaomi Auto has comprehensively upgraded its capabilities and is now entering its 'second chapter.'
In March 2021, Lei Jun announced Xiaomi's official entry into the smart electric vehicle market. At the time, the market widely questioned whether a smartphone company venturing into car manufacturing could really be credible.
Now, five years after Xiaomi announced its foray into carmaking, it has successfully launched two hit all-electric models—the SU7 and YU7—with cumulative deliveries exceeding 700,000 units. This solid sales performance has proven to the market that Xiaomi is currently the only Chinese brand capable of directly competing with Tesla in the RMB 200,000–400,000 all-electric segment.
In terms of reputation and quality, the SU7 and YU7 ranked first in their respective categories for initial quality and appeal index in J.D. Power’s authoritative owner survey reports. Moreover, the SU7 Ultra and YU7 GT have repeatedly set impressive records at Germany’s Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit, earning global recognition.
These achievements stem from comprehensive upgrades across Xiaomi’s systematic automotive capabilities.
First is continuous breakthroughs in core underlying technologies—from the Modena EV platform, V8s super motor, 9,100-ton mega die-casting, and HAD advanced driver-assistance system, to Xiaomi’s Kunlun technology architecture platform and three key core technologies covering super range-extended systems and an all-domain safety framework—enabling robust technical coverage spanning single to multiple vehicle models and from pure EV to range-extended platforms.
Second, Xiaomi’s intelligent manufacturing and autonomous driving capabilities have consistently gained global recognition. This year alone, Xiaomi’s Mega Factory has been visited by numerous foreign dignitaries, establishing itself as a globally recognized new benchmark for intelligent manufacturing. Following the upgrade of Xiaomi’s HAD system to the XLA large-model architecture, user satisfaction rates have continued to rise. The YU7 GT even set the world’s first autonomous-driving lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, demonstrating that Xiaomi’s intelligent driving assistance capabilities have withstood the test of a premier racing circuit.
Breakthroughs from technology to product would not have been possible without sustained talent development and recruitment. Over the past five years, Xiaomi Auto has built a multidisciplinary talent system encompassing design, R&D, engineering, manufacturing, safety, and battery technology.
