(Nasdaq: FFAI), a global EAI ecosystem company headquartered in California, U.S., announced today that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has granted U.S. Patent No. 12,630,004 to its subsidiary Future AIHER AI Hybrid Extended-Range Electric Powertrain System Inc. (hereinafter 'Future AIHER'), titled 'Range-Extending Hybrid Transmission System.' Filed in June 2025 and officially approved in May 2026, the patent includes 13 claims and marks a critical step in establishing the company’s leadership in hybrid electric drivetrain innovation. The patent describes a range-extending hybrid transmission system for vehicles that decouples the engine, generator-motor, and drive wheels to enable multiple driving modes.
Existing plug-in hybrid systems still suffer from sluggish power response, insufficient performance, suboptimal driving control, and high vehicle costs. Additionally, their complex mechanical structures can negatively impact vehicle handling, reliability, and overall driving experience. FF’s newly patented solution addresses these challenges by introducing a simplified hybrid transmission system that decouples the engine, generator-motor, and drive wheels, allowing all power sources to contribute to propulsion simultaneously. This approach achieves strong range extension with mild hybridization, enhancing power efficiency and performance while reducing overall powertrain complexity.
The granted patent (U.S. Patent No. 12,630,004) covers a range-extending hybrid transmission system comprising a first rotary power source, a generator-motor, a differential, and drive wheels. The system includes a first shaft extending from the rotary power source with a first clutch mounted thereon; a second clutch spaced apart from the first clutch; the generator-motor connected either to the first shaft or to a second shaft mechanically linked to the first shaft and/or the second clutch; and a third shaft connected to the differential, which is mechanically linked to the first shaft and/or the second clutch. This configuration decouples the engine, generator-motor, and drive wheels, enabling all power sources to drive simultaneously or independently.
Future AIHER was founded in March 2025 as the world’s first AI-powered hybrid extended-range electric drive system company. It is dedicated to designing, developing, and commercializing AI-driven range extender systems for extended-range electric vehicles. The company’s portfolio includes two potential products: the Super AI Hybrid Extended-Range System (AIHER) and the Super AI Extended-Range System. These systems aim to combine the strengths of traditional hybrid and extended-range architectures—with extended-range operation as the core and hybrid functionality as a supplementary feature—potentially redefining performance, energy optimization, and system integration.

As the world’s first AI-driven integrated ‘extended-range plus hybrid’ technology—emphasizing strong extended-range capability with mild hybrid support—AIHER will be first deployed on the FX Super One 800V model. This technology is expected to overcome the limitations of conventional hybrid and plug-in hybrid systems and demonstrates exceptional adaptability and energy efficiency, particularly in cold winter climates such as those on the U.S. East Coast.
