On May 22, Nio officially signed an agreement with the Kunming Biodiversity Fund (Kunming Fund), becoming the first company to contribute funding to the Kunming Fund. Nio will launch a dedicated initiative, committing financial resources and supporting assets to the Kunming Fund specifically to support biodiversity conservation efforts in developing countries.
The Chinese Chair of the Kunming Fund, the Acting UNDP Resident Representative in China, and Qin Lihong, Co-founder and President of Nio, jointly witnessed the signing ceremony on-site. Shen Feng, Executive Vice President of Nio and Chair of the Quality Management Committee, representing Nio, signed the cooperation agreement together with the representative of the Kunming Fund recipient organization.

In 2021, China announced the establishment of the Kunming Fund at the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity to support biodiversity conservation efforts in developing countries. On May 28, 2024, China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment formally signed a cooperation agreement with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Multi-Partner Trust Fund Office, officially launching the fund.
The Kunming Fund is the world's first biodiversity fund initiated by a developing country and aimed at supporting other developing countries. It consistently adheres to international operational standards and the principle of multilateralism, providing grant-based assistance to help developing countries implement the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. The fund focuses on key areas including ecosystem conservation and restoration, sustainable use of biodiversity, prevention and control of invasive alien species, and benefit-sharing related to digital sequence information on genetic resources. As of December 2025, it has implemented its first batch of nine projects and approved a second batch of 22 fully funded projects, benefiting 34 developing countries.
This signing with the Kunming Fund marks another significant step by Nio in global biodiversity governance, following its earlier collaboration with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to launch the 'Clean Parks – Ecological Co-Building Initiative for National Parks.' Additionally, the 'Clean Parks' initiative has been featured as a successful case study under 'Business and Biodiversity' in China’s Seventh National Report on the Implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity.
Nio will continue to fulfill its mission by leveraging its strengths in green technology and clean energy, working hand-in-hand with users and global partners to take concrete actions that support global biodiversity conservation, contribute steadily to building a shared future for all life on Earth, and co-create a more sustainable and better world.
