A new milestone for autonomous driving in Europe: WeRide's Robobus evolves further at Zurich Airport

WeRide Robobus drives into a new phase of autonomous mobility in Europe!
In May 2026, WeRide’s autonomous shuttle received formal approval at Zurich Airport to operate without a front-seat safety operator, providing daily commuter shuttle services for airport staff between the main terminal (Gate 101) and the maintenance area (Gate 130).
While brimming with cutting-edge technology, safety remains paramount. Currently, WeRide’s shuttle is monitored in real time by a remote operations center and equipped with a safety attendant in the rear seats to ensure stable operations within the airport environment.
As Europe’s first commercially deployed autonomous airport shuttle project, WeRide’s shuttle is setting off from Zurich Airport to continuously validate the safety, reliability, and scalability of autonomous driving technology in public transit shuttle scenarios—accelerating the large-scale adoption of autonomous shuttles across Europe.
