Tencent's PC game platform WeGame is shrinking and will be shut down on the mobile end two months later.

On July 5th, Tencent$TENCENT (00700.HK)$On July 5th, the operating team of the PC game platform WeGame, announced the 'delisting notice', stating that due to changes in business development strategy, the product of WeGame (including the App, WeBiBi WeChat mini program, and WeBiBi H5 version) will cease operation on September 8th.
Many players criticized this, saying 'It's okay to follow the PC end', and others mentioned 'It doesn't have too many practical functions'.
Wegame was formerly known as Tencent's TGP gaming platform, and officially changed its name on April 20, 2017. At the beginning of its establishment, Wegame was once considered to be benchmarking Steam. In May 2019, data revealed at the first WeGame Developer Conference showed that WeGame's cumulative registered users exceeded 0.3 billion, with an average monthly active users of over 70 million.
However, in terms of the number of games, Wegame still has a significant gap compared to Steam. According to official website data, Steam has about 0.03 million games, while Wegame only has 622 games.
Zhangshang Wegame is a game data analysis app launched by WeGame in November 2018, where users can view the WeGame game community, game performance data, watch game live streams, and analyze personal performance data of games such as League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, Dungeon & Fighter, and CrossFire on their mobile phones.
According to Qimai data, the cumulative download volume of Zhangshang Wegame on the Apple App Store in the past year is 3.09 million, ranking 696th on the overall iOS chart, with a rating of only 2.3 out of all versions. The last update was 5 months ago. In the app's comment section, many players have given feedback: unable to query performance data, forced launching of Zhangshang Wegame when logging into League of Legends, "Does anyone even manage this app?"
According to the announcement, Zhangshang Wegame has currently stopped new user registrations and disabled rewards recharge. Starting from July 16th, users will no longer be able to download the app from official channels and various app stores. At 23:59 on September 8th, the server will be shut down, officially ceasing operation, and players will no longer be able to log in.
Since the beginning of this year, Tencent has successively shut down multiple games or platforms under its umbrella. On January 27th and April 20th, Need for Speed Online and QQ Tang, respectively, were shut down in mainland China. On May 31st, Tencent's online game accelerator was upgraded to "Tencent Game Manager" and the old services were gradually stopped, with the upgraded product only supporting acceleration for Chinese servers. On June 7th, Tencent's mobile esports platform, Penguin Esports, was officially shut down.
