$Advanced Micro Devices (AMD.US)$
This earnings report is actually not good. The growth in server, gaming, and embedded sectors couldn't offset the significant drop in the PC segment, especially since the decline was larger than Intel's PC segment. Moreover, the market has always been tough on AMD. Based on the style of the major players before, they could easily push the stock down by 10 points.
However, surprisingly, the stock price went up during yesterday’s session and today’s pre-market trading. The only explanation is that after the big players pushed the stock price down to one-third of its peak, profited enough from short selling, accumulated sufficient shares at low prices, and attracted enough retail shorts, they might now be shifting gears. That’s why such a poor earnings report can still be positively interpreted.
Of course, pre-market and post-market movements don’t mean much; it’s also possible for the stock to be directly hit hard once the market opens.
There has been a flurry of new product launches recently. The GPU release on the 3rd was just an appetizer, as this market won't recover in the short term. It's saturated with decommissioned mining GPUs. The real highlight will be the 4th-gen EPYC on the 11th.
