Recently, according to China's auto sales data released by the Passenger Car Association, Tesla’s wholesale sales in August achieved a record high of 44,264 vehicles, marking a 34% increase from the previous month and a 275% year-on-year growth. As of August, Tesla's cumulative sales in 2021 have exceeded 250,000 vehicles, with domestic sales alone reaching 152,531 units, surpassing last year’s total annual sales.
After Tesla announced at the end of July that it would transform its Shanghai Gigafactory into a primary vehicle export hub, Tesla's export volume has soared. Following a breakthrough of over 20,000 units in July, Tesla set an export record of 31,379 vehicles in August, reflecting a robust 29% growth compared to July. The Passenger Car Association noted: 'New energy vehicles (NEVs) are showing strongly differentiated trends compared to traditional fuel vehicles, achieving a substitution effect on the fuel vehicle market and accelerating the transformation of the auto industry towards electrification.'
According to a previous tweet by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Tesla primarily allocates vehicles produced in the first half of the month for export, while the second half is focused on the domestic market. Currently, Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory has an annual production capacity planned to exceed 450,000 vehicles, with a projected monthly capacity of around 40,000 units. Judging by sales figures, Tesla is experiencing strong demand both domestically and internationally, leading to supply shortages.
