July 11 — According to reports, Microsoft (MSFT.O)'s $69 billion deal to acquire Activision Blizzard (ATVI.O) won US court approval, defeating the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC)'s efforts to block the biggest game industry takeover deal in history. San Francisco Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley's ruling means that Microsoft can seek to complete the acquisition of Activision Blizzard anywhere other than the UK before the July 18 deadline. In May of this year, the UK vetoed the deal. Microsoft previously said it reached an agreement to acquire Activision to increase its mobile gaming business — Microsoft has almost no business in this area.
