On April 12, the State Administration for Market Regulation and the State Administration of Standardization approved the mandatory national standard for electronic cigarettes (GB 41700-2022), which will be implemented starting from October 1, 2022.

The main contents of the second draft of the national standard for electronic cigarettes can be summarized into 10 key points:
1. Should not be attractive to minors, should not present product characteristics and flavors other than tobacco.
Interpretation: Fruit-flavored and other flavored electronic cigarettes are prohibited, only mixed-type flavors dominated by tobacco flavor are allowed.
2. Aerosols should contain nicotine.
Interpretation: Zero nicotine, herbal aerosols without nicotine should not be promoted.
3. Nicotine extracted from tobacco should not be less than 99% purity (mass fraction).
Interpretation: Cool with synthetic nicotine.
4. The electronic cigarette atomizer and cartridge used in electronic cigarette e-liquid should have a closed structure to prevent manual filling. For electronic cigarettes or cartridges filled with e-liquid, it shall be determined by inspection whether additional substances can be added.
Interpretation: Open electronic cigarettes are cool, including large cloud and oil-filled small cigarettes.
The electronic cigarette device and cartridges using e-liquid should have good sealing to prevent leakage. For electronic cigarettes or cartridges filled with e-liquid, place them in the most unfavorable direction on absorbent paper that meets the requirements of GB/T 1540 for at least 6 hours. Visually inspect to determine if there are any traces of e-liquid on the absorbent paper.
